In this article you are going to see how the Amazon Kindle can be used in conjunction with your iPhone. You can now download a free application that you can use to read ebooks on your iPhone. This announcement has seen many thousands of users rushing to download the application and try it out. Also, many people have been so impressed with this technology that iPhone users have decided to buy a Kindle 2 themselves. This gives you an idea of the power inside this little application.

I will now describe exactly how the Kindle iPhone application works. In reality, it's like having your Kindle 2 with you all the time, except inside your iPhone. It's pretty cool really. If you like to take your Kindle with you when you leave the house, then this is a way to stop carrying it around. Now you can simply view all your ebooks on your iPhone in a much more discreet manner. This is perfect if you just have a little free time and want to do some reading.

The application is applicable for both the iPhone and iPod touch, which gives many users free usage. The application also makes reading from the iPhone a better experience than many people could imagine. You can choose from 5 sizes of fonts and browsing through pages is also very easy. All you need to do is swipe the screen to the left or right in order to move pages. In order to bookmark pages, find the contents page or view the front cover, you only need to tap the screen.

The other great thing is that you can access your ebooks without needing to have your Amazon Kindle with you. With the Kindle iPhone application, you can just log into your Amazon account and download any of your own ebooks right to your iPhone. With the Kindle's Whispersync technology, you can also start from the position that you left of from on either device. All you need to do is ensure that the two devices are in sync before you stop reading. This will ensure that you start at the right page, next time you want to read.

Another great thing about the Kindle iPhone app is that it gives the reader a full-color version of the images from its LCD screen, as opposed to the Kindle's shades of gray. What it cannot do however, is permanently replace the Kindle as the choice reading device. While the iPhone acts as a perfect foil to the Kindle, the latter's e-paper technology, wide screen, and superior readability is still the best device for hours of nonstop reading.

The Kindle for iPhone application is very exiting but there are a couple of disadvantages. For instance you cannot buy books from Amazon with the iPhone. You can't browse through the Kindle library and you can't read magazines or newspapers either. The application only lets you read ebooks. These features are probably going to be resolved at a later date, so they are not great concerns, but something to think about. The application is still great and recommended to everyone.

With Poddio you can record using your phone's internal mic, or you can attach a more sophisticated mic for higher quality clips (though we noticed that recordings via the iPhone's mic are pretty darn impressive). Then, you can set about recording the files of your choice. If you buy the pro version ($9.99), you'll be able to share existing audio files via WiFi or FTP transfer from your computer to your phone, essentially making it a legitimate recording studio in your pocket that lets you mash up desktop machinations with your mobile clips.

Using Poddio to edit clips is where the app truly shines. The app is heavy on editing functionality, so beginners will want to watch the demo video embedded below. With Poddio, you can expect to be able to drag-and-drop clips from the audio playback to the Bungee Track (the clip bar), where they can be arranged in any fashion of your choosing. The toolbar at the bottom includes 16 different commands, so you can also create clips by highlighting audio, delete sections, undo errors, and combine audio from separate recordings.

We're barely scratching the surface with what this app can do, but we love the sophistication of Poddio and think it brings welcome utilities to the hands of many. For a demo of what you can do, watch this video clip:

Don't forget the book - I would have purchased if they hadn't have sent me one. BTW, twas the book that made me declare these guys Podcasting's "first franchise."

Now they have an iPhone app. It's all about "killing pirates." Who could possibly have anything wrong with that? It's a lot of fun - and very well done.

The app demonstrates that they understand the value of interacting with their audience and not just "tapping into that crazy iPhone app money" meme most apps feel like these days. There are some fascinating media integration elements in there.

Sure, the Ninja makes me laugh but, … they do something even more important.

Synchronize Lotus Notes to your iPhone

When Macintosh launched the iPhone in 2007, Time Magazine named it 'The invention of the year'. People lined up to be the first to buy one. The higher capacity iPhone 3B that Macintosh came out with the next year was even more amazing, and now we're all anxiously awaiting the new iPhone due to hit stores summer. If own an iPhone, you own one of the best devices available.

But Lotus Notes users aren't thrilled with one particular iPhone problem. They aren't able to sync their Lotus Notes data with their iCal or Address Book. The Macintosh synching program, iSync, won't sync Lotus Notes data - and that's a drag.

This means there's lots of wasted time keying Lotus Notes data into iCal or OS X Address Book so you can use it with your iPhone or other Apple supported device.

But now there's a great program from a company called PocketMac. PocketMac designs great ways to expand the Macintosh computing platform. Their synching program will synch all of your Lotus Notes data into iCal or Address Book. It's easy to use and it makes your iPhone much more compatible with Lotus Notes. Every time you run it, it performs a back and forth sync between iCal/Address Book & Lotus Notes. It's extremely easy to use for seamless two-way synching. Though you may not ever see them, there are apps in the App Store that sell for over $9.99. Mostly they're for doctors or stupid gimmicks, but they exist. Now the first one relevant on a larger scale to consumers is about to become available with the SlingPlayer Mobile app launching tonight for $29.99 in the App Store. How this app sells will be really interesting. While other consumer electronic companies have made apps, most have given them away for free like DirectTV and the Remote app from Apple. But SlingPlayer will be a bit different from those since it's streaming content from a piece of hardware you own to your iPhone -- so it's basically an extension of that device to use on the road. Of course, there's also a big caveat: It will only work over WiFi.
