Whatever your political persuasion or level of engagement, there are now plenty of great iPhone apps that put politics in your pocket. Today we pick out five of our favorites - please feel free to add your own in the comments section.
1. asap - Politics
There are plenty of news iPhone apps, but asap - Politics for $0.99 is designed for the man or woman who needs the latest New York Times opinion piece or the Real Clear Politics< ?a> roundup. The AP Mobile News Network app, which is free, is also a good choice.
2. Politics - The Essential Collection
Politics - The Essential Collection is a collection of the most important books and documents ever written in the realm of politics and government. Everything from Tzu's The Art of War to The Federalist Papers of Hamilton and Madison are included in this handy little app. If you truly call yourself a student of politics, this app and its books are a must-have. It retails for $1.99 in the iTunes store.
3. Congress and Congress+
The Cohen Research Group has put together two very detailed iPhone apps, Congress (which sells for $0.99) and Congress+ (which sells for $4.99). Each has information on the members of the U.S. Congress. Not only do you have basic information like office location, length of term, and district they serve, but their legislative staff, contact information, and even their Twitter. For the casual political pundit, Congress is enough, but if politics if your line of work, Congress+ is a must-have.
4. Elections
Sure, there are dozens of apps dedicated to the 2008 and 2012 Presidnetial elections, but a true political mastermind like you is also concerned with local elections and governor races across the country. How do you keep with all of those? With Elections from Magnificent Library, you not only get information on the candidates, but poll updates from Pollster, Gallup, and Rasmussen. You can even watch video of different debates and news feeds from some of the major news sources. This app costs $0.99.
5. ukPolitics
Following the UK political circuit? Although there are few apps dedicated to politics outside of the US, ukPolitics is one of the best. ukPolitics covers the Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democratic Parties, major news, and even has Twitter feeds from major UK news sources and political figures.
